420While ecocricitism has given much attention to the Romantic ecocriticism and Heidegger’s philosophy, Nietzsche remains surprisingly absent from this strand of literary theory. Is there nothing in Nietzsche that can be of use for ecocriticism? Do his concepts operate in a contradictory way to ecopoetics? In this essay, I follow recent scholarship that sees in Nietzsche a potential for ecological thought and read three of his poems from three different periods as a gradual joyful overcoming of the tensions between the human and its environment.
