This article analyzes the impact of the Italian «Decreto Sicurezza» (Law 80/2025) on housing policies, focusing on its punitive approach toward squatting and squatters and on the impact of accelerated eviction procedures that further strengthen property owners’ rights but fail to address structural causes of housing insecurity. It also highlights critical issues in Italy’s housing system such the high proportion of empty dwellings, the decline of the public housing stock, and the cut of housing welfare measures in the country.
