This paper examines a pedagogical framework that integrates pragmatics and multimodality to guide English language learners in translating literary texts into audiovisual productions. Reversing the traditional visual-toverbal approach, this method moves from written narratives to screen works (treatments, scripts, short films) via creative recontextualisation (modernisation and rewriting). The approach combines Task-Based Language Teaching, Project-Based Learning, and experiential learning to foster linguistic and pragmatic awareness through multimodal production, comparing writing for literature versus cinema. The study investigates learners’ translation of pragmatic strategies – including speech acts, deixis, politeness, implicatures, and presupposition – into non-verbal resources such as gesture, gaze, sound, and visual framing. Drawing on intersemiotic translation and multimodal discourse frameworks, the analysis shows how learners coordinate semiotic channels to encode pragmatic force. Findings indicate that adapting literary narratives multimodally strengthens language skills, metapragmatic awareness, and semiotic agility in second language production.
